Literature and Languages is offering a new writing class this spring!
EN 308: Style and Revision is an advanced writing workshop focusing on the sentence and exploring the effects of style on revision. Style includes the principles of clear and fluid sentence-level prose as well as the connection between sentence-level choices and an author’s voice.
We’ll analyze and imitate the distinctive writing styles of writers like Tom Wolfe, Susan Sontag, Hunter S. Thompson, and Pauline Kael, and we’ll analyze and perfect our own writing voices. Students will read and write essays on current issues and events, popular culture, and performances. The course culminates in a feature article that includes primary and secondary research.
This class fulfills the requirement for a 300-level writing course.
