15th Annual F. Scott Fitzgerald Conference

The 15th Annual F. Scott Fitzgerald Literary Conference will be held on Saturday October, 16, 2010.  The annual event honors literary giant, F. Scott Fitzgerald, with a series of lectures and workshops for aspiring writers.  Whether your genre of interest is fiction, non-fiction, screen-writing, poetry, or short stories, this conference has something beneficial to offer you.  As an added bonus the event is happening locally, even accessible by metro!

This year Alice McDermott will be receiving the organization’s highest honor: the F. Scott Fitzgerald Literary Award for Outstanding Achievement in American Literature.  Her repertoire of literary success includes That Night, Charming Billy, and After This. She will give an acceptance speech and a reading at the event.  The keynote speaker of the conference is world renowned book critic, Jonathan Yardley.   Yardley will be giving a lecture on the literary scene of Washington, D.C. Among the presenters is Evan Thomas from Newsweek will also be in attendance.  His experience as the magazine’s lead writer on major news events will provide for a fascinating insight into the world of journalism in the digital age.

This year attendees will have an opportunity to receive intimate, constructive feedback from established writers and other attendees in a variety of workshops.  Topics this year include, but are not limited to, “The Journey to Finish a Novel” with Deanna Fei, “Narrative Nonfiction: How to Do It and Why It’s Important” with David Rowell and “Flash Fiction” with Kirk Nesset.

The conference will be held at Montgomery College in Rockville, Maryland.  The campus is located off of I-270.  Alternatively, attendees can use public transportation (metro and Ride-On bus or Metrobus).

Prices are extremely low for students: $15 if you become a member and $20 for non-member students.  The registration fee includes continental breakfast, lunch, panel discussion, awards ceremony, keynote presentation and one workshop.  To register for additional workshops there is a $25 fee.
