This summer, Literature and Language faculty members Dr. Hollynd Karapetkova and Dr. Amy Scott-Douglass were featured in a faculty spotlight newsletter sent to prospective Marymount students. The professors answered various questions about teaching, their passions/areas of expertise, and how being in the DC area enhances the academic experience of their students. Take a moment to get to know your professors!
When asked why she loves teaching, Dr. Karapetkova stated, “I not only get to share my passion for writing every day, but I also get to be a part of my students’ learning, growth, and discovery. It’s hard to imagine a greater gift than this.”
Dr. Scott-Douglass discussed the benefits of teaching in the D.C. region: “I frequently take my students to see plays in Washington, especially at the Shakespeare Theatre Company and the Folger Theatre. I have arranged for students to have private tours of the book vault at the Folger Library. We also go to the National Gallery of Art, after which they research and write about their favorite paintings.”
