Dr. Sarah Ficke to Speak on Outlaw Heroes in African American Romance

Library Board Room, March 14 2012, 3:30-5:00pm

Reclaimed outlaws have always made compelling heroes in romantic fiction. Why, then, did it take more than 100 years for outlaw heroes to appear in African American romance? The answer lies in the complicated connection between personal relationships and national politics that shaped African American fiction. Dr. Ficke will explore this connection using the works of 19th century authors William Wells Brown and Pauline Hopkins and the contemporary novels of best-selling romance author Beverly Jenkins. Come to the talk to learn more! Wednesday, March 14th, 3:30-5:00pm, Reinsch Library Board Room
